The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA Bauchi) has vowed not to cover all the activities that involve and concerns police force.
The station urged colleagues in sister media houses To do same to serve as deterrence to future unlawful acts and impunity by any security because an injury to is one is an injury to all.
This was disclosed by the General Manager NTA Bauchi Suleiman Ibrahim Ahmed on Tuesday saying “the 6th day of June , 2021 will go down in the history of our profession in Bauchi as a black Sunday”
He added that, it is a Sunday when an honest young journalist left the Office, armed with nothing but his camera, his microphone and jotter and of course the official driver, the desire to bring information to the sitting room of Nigerians residing in Bauchi.
“On arriving at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa studium, the said reporter ( name withheld ) respectively demanded access to main bowl to cover the Match between Wikki Tourist and Akwa United” he explained.
But without any form of Provocation, a police man, Dauda manning the post at the stadium removed his belt and started beating the defenseless reporter. continued to ask the police what he did without any answer “
The General Manager stated, that this act of unprovoked and unwarranted physical assault is not only unacceptable but unreservedly condemned”
“For us in NTA we regard this act as a blatant attacked on the media generally as the fourth estate of the realm and extension an attack our democracy”
“The Nigerian Television Authority has over the years collaborated and Worked with the Nigerian police and All other security agencies in this country with respect and a sense of partnership for the benefit of our nation” the Bauchi GM said.
He also thanked , the chairman Nigerian Union Of Journalist, Mallam Umar sa’idu and members of the Bauchi State Council for their prompt response to the blatant violation of the fundamental right of staff.
