Ahead of the May 29, 2023 second term inauguration of Governor Seyi Makinde as Governor of Oyo State, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, and other prominent members of the party are already in Ibadan, the state capital to celebrate his Omituntun 2:0.
The party leaders and supporters are also in the state to honour Governor Makinde on his recent appointment as the Vice Chairman of Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF).
Recall that, at the expiration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state’s tenure as Chairman of the NGF, and PDP Governors’ Forum respectively, the Governors in Abuja, met and unanimously elected the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as the NGF Chairman, and Governor Seyi Makinde as Vice Chairman.
Governor Makinde who crystallized his second term campaign with #Omituntun 2.0, was elected by majority of lawful votes cast by the people of Oyo State on March 18, 2023, to continue with his people oriented projects.
In the last four years of his administration in Oyo State, Governor Makinde did not only delivered on all the promises he made to his people, he also surpassed all expectations of the people in various areas of the economy.
According to reports by Bureau of Statistics, Oyo State was one of the top 5 states in Nigeria that experienced YoY growth in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), between 2019 to 2021.
The Governor also embarked on the construction of four modern bus terminals strategically located at exits and entrance of Ibadan; Iwo Road, New Ife Road, Challenge and Ojoo among others.
In addition, the Makinde administration also constructed and rehabilitated numerous roads, bridges and junction improvement to decongest traffic within major cities in Oyo State, among which are; General Gas Flyover,
Challenge/Felele junction improvement,
Dualisation of 9.7km Saki Township Road, etc.
The Governor also constructed the computerized VIS Centre at Idi-Ape, purchase of 106 buses for mass transit scheme to alleviate the transportation challenges of civil servants and students in the state, the light up Oyo’ Phase 2 project which covers 223.48km of roads across the state.
It is also important to note that, the Makinde administration also constructed the 21km Airport-Ajia-New Ife Express Road with a spur to Amuloko, 45.3km Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road, 9.7km Saki Township Road, Idi-Ape-Bashorun-Akobo-Odogbo Barracks Road and the 5.2km Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa Road.
Governor Makinde will be remembered for the construction and rehabilitation of the Adamasingba Stadium to International standard, and the recent upgrade of the Ibadan International Airport.
Apart from road constructions and rehabilitations, Governor Makinde performed excellently in delivering health care, provision of quality education, housing, prompt payments of salaries, pensions/gratuities and other basic needs of the people of Oyo State.
All these achievements and many more are parts of his promises in his first tenure, but in his #Omituntun 2.0, the Governor has promised to continue with more projects, protection of lives and properties of the people of Oyo state and hand over a more better, prosperous and safer Oyo to his successor. No wonder the Governor was nicknamed as one of the “Star Governors” of PDP, with so many projects to his credit.
#Omituntun 2.0 is a great package that promises to bring more job opportunities, creation of new houses, roads, health care and education facilities for the people of Oyo State.
