…NGF in talks with downstream regulatory agency to strengthen laws on safety
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara on Sunday at Government House, Port Harcourt, received the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman who called to commiserate with him and the people of Rivers State on the tanker fire Incidence that claimed about five lives and destroyed several vehicles on Friday.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after a closed door meeting, Governor Abdulrahman said it became necessary to sympathize with the state and the people for such an unfortunate disaster..
He noted that there is need to strengthen regulations in the downstream sector in terms of health and safety.
The NGF Chairman emphasised that he has been in talks with the head of the downstream agency in order to review some of the laws, adding that there will be engagement between the downstream regulatory agency and state agencies to streamline issues of health and safety.
Abdulrahman also pointed out that Rivers State tanker fire incident came after the CNG fire in Ogun State and lamented the loss of lives and property in both incidents.
He restated that as Nigeria relies on virtual pipelines for movement of petroleum products, there is need to strengthen regulations in the sector, as it is equally necessary to improve and expand pipelines network for transportation of petroleum products.
