Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has provided the necessary security mechanisms required to ensure that Kano remains peaceful in the wake up of renewed spate of #EndSARS protests spreading across the country.
Governor Ganduje in a statement on Wednesday by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, acknowledged that the protests have occurred in Kano but said that “There are protests across some states of the federation and Kano has its share of that, but it is now under control.”
“The state government has been meeting with various stakeholders concerning the development. We are also working very closely with the security agencies. We are happy that they are working with good synergy among them, parts of the reason why we are living peacefully in the state.
“We met last night with the leadership of all the ethnic nationalities in the state. While they assured us that, they would do everything possible to talk to their people to continue living peacefully with other people, they gave us their words on that,” he said.
Governor Ganduje assured that, “Kano is peaceful. And, we are watching things. I am therefore calling on all to live peacefully with one another. Peace is peace; there is no alternative to peace.”
The #EndSARS protests which began from Lagos has led to the abolition of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, an arm of the Nigerian Police Force and its subsequent replacement with SWOT but have lingered despite this.
Arewareporters recalls that the protesters clashed with unsuspected persons and security personnel in some states, the latest of which is the pandemonium that engulfed crisis ridden Jos yesterday.
