Governor Abdullahi A. Sule has called for more awareness from all sectors on the ways of protecting people against the coronavirus pandemic.
The Governor was speaking when he received in audience the National Coordinator the Conditional Cash Transfer programme of the federal government, Dr Tope Sinkaye at the Government House Lafia, Thursday.
He thanked the scheme for selecting Nasarawa State as one of the first beneficiaries of this programme, just as he called on the Coordinator to consider the remaining seven local governments in the state for the payment of the stipends.
“There are more vulnerable people even in the local governments that are being paid at the moment that are not beneficiaries so I call on you to register more beneficiaries in the state”. Gov Sule added.
While speaking on the continuation of the school feeding programme and modalities to be employed, Governor Sule appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for continuing the school feeding programme despite closure of schools.
He stressed that that there is no better time the people need these assistance than now.
“Awareness is needed from all and the best body to do that is the team from that scheme as they issue cash, they enlighten the people on preventive measures against COVOD-19”. Gov Sule stressed.
On her part, the National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer programme, Dr Tope Sinkaye said the payment has been on in the state before now.
“To cushion the effect of COVOD-19 pandemic, the President has directed that two circles which is four months payment be made to the beneficiaries”, Dr Sinkaye added.
She maintained that it is not just about the payment of the stipends but that also engage in sensitization of the people on ways of curtailing spread of the coronavirus pandemic through personal hygiene.
Dr Sinkaye then expressed appreciation for the support the state government has accorded the cash transfer scheme and other federal government policies and programmes.
Six local governments which include Lafia, Awe, Akwanga, Wamba, Kokona and Nasarawa are to benefit from the two-circle of four months disbursement exercise that commenced on Wednesday 1st April, 2020.
