Bauchi State Government has called on journalists working in the state to give their quota towards maintaining the peaceful atmosphere prevalent in the state despite being the gateway to the Northeast Subregion that was ravaged by insurgency.
Hon Dayyabu Ciroma, Commissioner for Information and Communication Bauchi State stated this on Thursday in Bauchi at the closing ceremony of the Press Week organised by the Bauchi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ.
He said that journalists are important stakeholders in achieving and maintaining peace in the state.
“It is no longer news that insurgency and terrorism have crippled the Northeast. Despite the challenges, Bauchi State remains the most peaceful state in the region.
“I want to implore you to use your journalism tools to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that the government of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in collaboration with all the security architectures working tirelessly to maintain and ensure maximum protection of lives and property of the good people of Bauchi State,” the Commissioner said.
Hon Dayyabu Ciroma expressed confidence in the capacity of Bauchi journalists to help the state government maintain the peaceful atmosphere for which it is known all over Nigeria.
The Commissioner said that Bauchi State Government is working round the clock to switch its Bauchi Radio Corporation, BRC and Bauchi State Television Authority, BATV, from analogue to digital transmission.
Earlier in his address, Bauchi State NUJ Chairman said that the union organized the Press Week to bring together professional journalists in the state to make a reflection on their activities in the previous year.
He said that the forum is designed to foster unity among members and improve the relationship between media, government and citizens.
